  • Joinery Basics - 3 day class

    This 3-day class is designed for both beginners and those looking to refine their woodworking skills with a focus on joinery techniques. Joinery is essential to woodwork, as it involves the methods of connecting different pieces of wood together securely and effectively.

    Participants will receive instruction and practice on material preparation and layout and an introduction to various joinery techniques (butt joints, lap joints, dovetails, mortise and tenon).

    Using a range of hand tools used in joinery, including saws, chisels, clamps, and drills, participants will create a small project such as a side table, stool or box incorporating a range of joints with a focus on precision and alignment throughout the joinery process.

    All necessary materials and tools will be provided for the duration of the class. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects or ideas for future woodworking endeavors. No prior woodworking experience is required, but a willingness to learn and work with tools is essential.

    We will cover techniques for effective planing: grain direction, pressure, and speed. Practice planing flat surfaces and achieving smooth finishes and identify problems such as tear-out and uneven surfaces and tips for keeping your hand planes in top condition
